This aesthetically beautiful masonry technique, called “sardine”, is very common in Tinos island. Locals told me that it’s a way of protecting their houses especially during winter, when humidity levels are so high that water rolls down their external walls. By this technique, water flow is stopped from rolling and paint and masonry stay intact!
