  1. Absolutely, one of my more favorites of your photographs!

  2. That must have been a really lovely house at one time Pelly. Are those patterns stencilled onto the walls? xox

    • Indeed it was! It was the villa of the village… When he and my great grandmother moved to Athens, they left all the furniture and household there. The villagers took everything and used it as a stable! The roof fell in the 60’s, so it’s quite amazing that the stencils are still there and their color intact… I went there in 2007 for the first time and it broke my heart to see it like this. My mother spent some time there during the WWII, as her familly couldn’t afford to feed 7 children… The great grandparents and her used to hide in the celar during the bombardments…

      • It seems like your family had a very hard life especially during WWII. Has your family any plans on what to do with the villa ?

        • Aaahh… it’s a sad long story!
I am the only one who cares about this place, but I am not the sole owner… Plus, since it’s been abandoned for all those years, the neighbours are going to prescribe it (…if they haven’t already done it)!

          • I suppose it can be a very long and expensive legal process to find out who is now the rightful owner. Even if you do win, doing the place up wouldn’t be cheap.

            • Well… everybody in the village knows about my great grandfather, my mother and to whom the house belongs. But people from Mani (the “Maniots”) have the reputation of being fierce, tough and warlike! You don’t want them as your enemy. The Maniot Greeks still practice vendettas even today… ;)

            • I hope you can sort it out amicably then Pelly. You don’t want trouble do you ? xox
